Legal & General Capital

John Bromley
John leads Legal & General Capital’s (LGC) clean energy and climate investment strategy focused on energy transition.

Since inception in 2015, John has led the growth of the Clean Energy business, which is focused on investment opportunities in the energy transition and invests in both renewable energy infrastructure and clean technology growth businesses including NTR (pan-European renewables), Brill Power, Oxford PV, Tokamak Energy, Pod Point, Kensa Group, Rovco-Vaarst and Sero Technologies.

John’s role is to increase Legal & General’s presence and positive impact in clean energy and climate, seeking long-term partnerships to invest in the assets, infrastructure and scale-up technology businesses needed in a net zero society. John works closely with Legal & General’s property and housing businesses, to identify opportunities for our investees to provide solutions for Legal & General and its clients to achieve their climate targets, and also introduced UK offshore wind as an investable asset class for Legal & General Retirements.

John has more than 20 years’ experience including key roles working in infrastructure investment and the delivery of major projects (including at Triodos, John Laing, Ernst & Young). Before joining Legal & General, John was CIO of an institutional equity fund and managed a team based in the Netherlands to invest a pan-European portfolio of 15 utility-scale renewable energy assets (c.800MW), including onshore wind, offshore wind and solar.

John sits on several Legal & General committees contributing to the Legal & General Group’s approach to climate change and sustainability, and is a member of the CBI Decarbonisation Council. John has extensive experience as a Non-Executive Director in clean energy businesses and is also an independent member of the investment committee of Emmaus UK, a homelessness charity housing c.1000 people across the UK.
