A homelessness charity has received some invaluable advice from a financial services provider working within the National Business Response Network on their recruitment activity. The Wallich is a Wales-based charity that supports people who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness. With the challenges thrown up by Covid-19 the charity has found it hard to recruit staff in some areas.

Pensions and savings provider Legal & General came to the assistance of The Wallich in January after it requested HR advice through The Network, a Business in the Community programme backing vulnerable communities during the pandemic.
Ian Coughlin, The Wallich’s Recruitment and Workforce Manager, said: “A key challenge was that, while certain jobs received many applications, others failed to prompt any.”
He appealed through The Network at the end of last year and caught the attention of Legal & General, one of Cardiff’s biggest employers, who offered to help.
David Mfon, Legal & General’s talent acquisition specialist (customer service), said: “From talking about how to approach different processes and telling people why they should come and work for you, we could see the potential to make a big difference.
“This was such a rewarding experience, especially knowing it could help people going through a rough time.”
Ian added: “The support I had from David was exceptional and we’re looking to see if we can implement some of Legal & General’s processes.”
Business in the Community formed The Network in the wake of the first national coronavirus lockdown as an initiative to give vital support to vulnerable communities.
The Network connects businesses with community organisations across the UK to harness the resources and expertise needed to help them build back. It has already made more than 3,000 connections.
