Runners have raised more than £1,000 for a children’s play park after taking part in a giant relay for the 90th time. The runners from Legal & General held the event, which is in its 90th year, to raise money for The Friends of Hove Park to help revamp the play park.

In total, more than £1,400 was raised, including match-funding from the financial services company, following the relay which took place last week (Thursday 31 May) in Hove Park itself.
There were more than 116 runners and 29 teams who got involved and were cheered on by their colleagues and the public.
The event which had previously been held in Kingswood, Surrey, but this year came to Hove was organised by Legal & General worker Steve Harris. He said: “It was a brilliant to see so many people take part in the relay for such a good cause, given this was the first time we have held the event in Hove. Considering the run is in its 90th year, I wanted this event to be a big success and it couldn’t have been without all who supported in the running of the event and the professionalism of the runners taking part.” Staff at Legal & General in Hove raised tens of thousands of pounds every year for local causes. It has just been announced that they have been shortlisted in the Brighton and Hove Business Awards, organised by Platinum Publishing, for Business in the Community.
