The Cardiff Diversity and Inclusion team were presented with the Award in 2019 and have been successful in their application for reaccreditation which is huge achievement and well deserved recognition to the commitment of the team. They have been instrumental in driving awareness and change across the Cardiff location.
Jenny Atkinson, Chair of the L&G Cardiff Diversity & Inclusion Committee said:
“The committee has brought its national commitment to diversity and inclusion to life locally by listening to its people, understanding their views, taking suggestions and then designing and implementing a compelling diversity and inclusion strategy, specifically to address the areas of interest to the Cardiff team”
Clare Rudall, Senior Lead Wales, BITC Cymru said:
“In a tumultuous year, where COVID-19 has exacerbated many of the inequalities already present in society, Business in the Community (BITC) has seen a huge refocus by responsible businesses to re-examine their diversity and inclusion policies and assess if these are having true impact. So it is a great achievement for Legal and General to be recognised as Responsible Business Champions in this area. Congratulations to the Legal and General inclusion committee and the wider team”
Members of the committee live its values. They have based their local inclusion strategy on the suggestions and views of its people, and have drawn up a plan which includes staging events and initiatives. Activities included: Black History Month; International Women’s Day; Pride Cymru; The Menopause Exchange, World Mental Health Day and LGBT History Month. These events have been held up as examples of best practice in diversity and inclusion across the business community in Wales.
For over 20 years Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards have showcased transformational stories of businesses taking real action to build thriving communities. Each year, the Awards celebrate businesses demonstrating strong, inclusive leadership, who continuously innovate to tackle pressing social issues to repair and rebuild our planet.
The 2020 Responsible Business Champions Cymru demonstrates their full commitment to the responsible business agenda during times of extreme and testing change. Each Champion exemplifies best practice that can motivate and inspire others. Their work is more important than ever as businesses adjust to the new normal and work to build back better responsibly.
