I'm delighted to announce Legal & General won a national Award from Business in the CommunityCymru (BITC) for our commitment to responsible business practice.
We received the accolade at the Wales Responsible Business Awards 2015 Gala Dinner, which was held at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Wales Responsible Business Awards, sponsored by National Grid, are part of the UK’s longest-running and most respected Awards programme, which recognises companies demonstrating the significant commercial benefits of being a responsible business while tackling the social, economic and environmental challenges.
Legal & General were one of eight winners selected from a record number of entries from across Wales and were recognised in the annual gathering of The Prince’s Responsible Business Network.
We picked up the award as Winner of the 'Careers Wales School Partnership' category and Lynne Sheehy, CSR Manager Cardiff had this to say on the win:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have won this award in recognition of the Business Class partnership we’ve developed with Pen y dre School over the last 18 months.
The partnership is a perfect way for our employees to strategically engage with the school and delivers tangible benefits for both pupils and teachers, and provides valuable development opportunities for employees.
This award reflects partnership working at its best and huge thanks must go to Sandie Dunn, People Development Manager, LGIM Retail, who has been instrumental in driving this relationship forward and making sure the programmes delivered are really tailored to the needs of the school.”
Hosted by Lucy Owen (BBC Cymru Wales), the ceremony featured an address by Steve Holliday CEO, National Grid, the 2014 UK Responsible Business of the Year. He was joined at the event by Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of BITC and Rosie Sweetman, Director of BITC Cymru who said:
“The 2015 Awards has been a record year for BITC Cymru and we heard from companies of all sizes and sectors who are achieving commercial success in ways that honour their values and drive real economic, social and environmental impacts in communities across Wales.
Responsible business is about how a company makes its money, not simply how it returns a profit. This was clearly articulated by Legal & General in their 2015 Award entry and I congratulate the entire team for their achievement.
BITC Cymru is looking forward to working with Legal & General as together we continue to grow the Welsh responsible business network and demonstrate that business is a force for good.”
We were represented on the night by Steve Thomas, Location Director, Lynne and children from Pen y dre School. Pictured above with the award are Lynne and the children, Macaulay and Courtney who were rightly thrilled with picking up the award. Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic result!
