Our share price and performance
This page will help you explore the performance of our Legal & General Group plc shares on the London Stock Exchange. We’ve designed it to give investors the transparency they need to invest with confidence.
You might see our shares referred to as XLON: LGEN, LON:LGEN or LSE:LGEN. The different prefixes are just different ways that different platforms identify the London Stock Exchange.
Exploring our share price
How the chart works
When you first arrive on the page the chart above will show you the performance of our LON:LGEN shares over the past 12 months. The X axis shows time and the Y axis shows the stock price. You can interrogate a particular day by hovering your cursor over it. You can choose another time period if you’d like to see our share price over, say, a day, month, year, five years or more.
Above the chart, we also share key current trading figures. They cover:
- the price of our shares at today’s market opening, the last price they sold at and the difference between the two
- volume, which is the total number of shares traded during the day, and the highest and lowest values at which shares have sold today
- the highest and lowest prices that people are willing to trade our shares – they’re the bid price (the highest buying one) and the ask price (the lowest selling one)
If you want to look up those details for a particular date in the last 10 years, just click on the share price lookup tab.
Our purpose
Our share price isn’t the only measure of our success. Our purpose – ‘Investing for the long term. Our futures depend on it.’ – sums up the broader impact we aim to have.
Our very first investments in the UK’s earliest railways and real estate showed that capital can generate social benefits alongside returns for investors. That idea continues to guide us today.
You can find out more about those benefits in the sustainability section of our reporting hub.
