Computershare offers a quick and easy way to buy and sell shares in L&G and other UK companies at up-to-date prices. You can:
- deal online at Computershare's website.
- call the shareholder helpline on 0370 707 1399 (standard rates apply). From outside the UK, call +44 (0) 370 707 1399.
The helpline is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm (excluding bank holidays in England and Wales).
Call the Computershare shareholder helpline for guidance.
If the shares were held by one person, Computershare needs one of these original or sealed legal documents:
- grant of probate (if there is a will)
- letters of administration (if there is no will)
- confirmation (Scotland)
If the shares were held jointly, Computershare needs:
- the original death certificate
- all original share certificates for the holding
If there is no grant of probate and the estate is worth less than £20,000, Computershare can provide a Small Estates Declaration and Indemnity Form. There is a fee for this service.
Once the documents are registered, Computershare will confirm the next steps. No changes, sales or transfers can happen until legal representatives are registered.
The indemnity must be taken out in the country where the company is incorporated. This protects L&G and Computershare from claims if another party makes a claim on the estate.
Yes. You can register your proxy voting instruction via www.investorcentre.co.uk/eproxy. You’ll need your control number, SRN and PIN, which you’ll receive with your AGM communications.
If you need a paper proxy form, call the shareholder helpline and return the completed form to Computershare. If there’s a poll, your proxy can still vote for you.
If you can’t appoint a proxy, you can still send the form back. In a poll, the chair will vote in line with your instructions.

Share dealing
Share dealing is a way investing where you buy and sell shares in publicly listed companies. Each share is a single unit of ownership in a listed company. When you buy a share in a company, you become one of its shareholders. You can hold shares physically via a share certificate or electronically via a nominee account.
As a shareholder you are entitled to:
- receive dividends (when declared) on your shares
- vote on resolutions at the Annual General Meeting
A dividend is a payment by the company to shareholders. It usually represents a share of their profits. Companies don’t have to pay a dividend, although many do. There are no guarantees though – and always remember that both dividends and share values can fall as well as rise.
If you’re not sure about investing in shares, you should seek independent investment advice.
It’s an electronic way to buy, sell or hold shares.
The easiest way is online through a share dealing service.
You can buy or sell L&G through the Computershare Share Dealing Service.
First, register at www.investorcentre.co.uk. You’ll need your SRN. Once registered, you can sign up for Computershare’s online share dealing service and complete an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) check. This can take a few days, so register early.
If you hold a share certificate, send Computershare the original certificate and an authorisation letter. To transfer shares into the Nominee account, send the certificate and a deposit form (downloadable from the Investor Centre) to:

Online security
Computershare uses several measures to protect your account, including:
- A unique Site Seal for each user
- Three security questions
- Trusted device registration
Keep your password safe. L&G and Computershare will never ask for it.
If you’re locked out after three failed attempts, use the ‘forgotten User ID’ or ‘forgotten password’ options. If you still can’t log in, call Computershare.
Lost certificate or cheques
If you lose a share certificate, call the helpline. Computershare will issue a letter of indemnity. Fees may apply. If you find the original certificate after reporting it missing, it’s invalid and must be returned.
If you lose a cheque, call the helpline. If the cheque is out of date, Computershare can issue a replacement (fees may apply).
Electronic communications
Sign up for e-communications for quicker, safer access to company information. You can:
- Get email notifications instead of post
- Reduce paper waste and costs
To sign up or change your preference, log in to the Investor Centre or call the helpline.
