RedSTART’s mission is to improve financial literacy in primary school children. Its unique programme that helps pupils learn about money, equipping them with the financial awareness that they’ll need to handle their finances throughout life.
RedSTART’s ‘Change the Game’ programme is now in its third year. This academic year (24/25), the programme has 85 member schools serving around 25,000 pupils in seven hubs across the UK. Through its immersive and interactive workshops, pupils learn about a range of topics, including budgeting, saving, investing and attitudes towards money.
Why Legal & General is partnering with RedSTART
Legal & General wants to ensure that the seeds for long-term financial wellbeing are planted early, so that all children, regardless of their socio-economic background, have the financial education they need to make informed decisions throughout their lives and into retirement.
Recognising this, in 2022 Legal & General signed a three-year partnership with financial education charity RedSTART.
“We’re delighted that Legal & General is supporting us. The partnerships we form will ensure that we reach as many children as possible. Legal & General’s values match perfectly: supporting people with their long-term financial wellbeing”

How Legal & General is helping RedSTART improve financial education for kids
In addition to funding, Legal & General has supported RedSTART in several ways to date:
- Leveraged employees’ diverse range of skills and experiences to provide pro bono support in AI technology.
- Provided additional funding that enabled RedSTART to expand into Cardiff and surrounding areas, bringing 12 new schools onto the programme.
- Over 150 Legal & General people have volunteered with RedSTART – either in their local communities or in our offices. By welcoming pupils into our offices, they gain an insight into the wide variety of career options that one day might be available to them.
Measuring the impact
RedSTART is partnering with the Policy Institute at King’s College London to measure and evaluate the impact of the Change the Game programme on pupil’s financial literacy, habits and attitudes.
The researchers will report back in 2029, with mid- and full-year reports, tracking the programme along the way. The first Summary Evaluation Report can be found here.
The reports will contribute towards a body of evidence that will be presented to the Government to support the case for financial education to be a core subject for all 4.7 million primary school children across the UK.
